Energy ministers from Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina outlined a unified strategy to advance regional energy cooperation during Energy Week Western Balkans 2024. Recognising the importance of a coordinated approach, the ministers discussed the establishment of joint working groups to align on renewable energy investments and transmission infrastructure. Their goal is to strengthen the interconnected energy market and facilitate smoother project implementation across borders.
In particular, the ministers highlighted plans to improve grid capacity and address transmission challenges, which are essential to supporting the increasing influx of renewable projects. The collaborative approach aims to maximise the region’s resources by enhancing energy efficiency and supporting a resilient power network. The ministers stressed that an integrated energy market could unlock new opportunities for foreign investment, enhancing the competitiveness of renewable projects across the Western Balkans.
This commitment to decarbonisation and cooperation is a central focus for achieving the European Union’s Green Deal goals. The ministers’ agreement on establishing cross-border energy projects demonstrates a dedication to regional unity in tackling climate change. As a result, the Western Balkans is poised to become a strong example of successful green energy integration and collective action towards a sustainable energy future.
